Kildonan School in New York - http://www.kildonan.org/page.cfm?p=931 They do an IP (independent project) week where students research the answer to a pressing question (Krista)
Here is an online lecture about what the flipped classroom is all about. It is called "Flipped Class 101 and presented by Aaron Sams and Jon Bergmann, two of the pioneers and proponents of the flipped classroom. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=i9MY92TM0hM
Here is Aaron Sams and Jon Brgmann's book called "Flip Your Classroom: reach every student in every class every day" Iste. ASCD: ISBN:978-1-56-484-315-9 (pbk). It is an interesting and easy read. They believe the pedigogy should drive instruction not technology and that technology is but a tool to reach the outcome. They are also proponents of the use of a variety of instructional strategies such as mastery learning, PBL and several others that are easily incorporated into the flipped classroom.
Here is an article the outlines the concept of Mastery Learning as first suggested by Benjamin S. Bloom. It is called "Lessons of Mastery Learning" by Thomas R. Guskey found on the ASCD website under Educational Leader, October 2010, vol 68, number 2, Interventions that Work, pgs.52-57.
Here is an interesting look at how to integrate curriculum (check out page 3 with the umbrella) - http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/literacynumeracy/inspire/research/ww_integrated_curriculum.pdf - I especially like the idea of "be, know, do", all of the things we need our students to do - but do we need to come together as an entire staff within our schools and come up with what we want our kids to be, know, and do? Or would we all agree on what our kids need to be, know, and do? (Krista)
Currently have emails out to a couple of schools where we may be able to visit multi-age classrooms.
